Millstone Township was incorporated in 1844, purportedly named after the Millstone River that originates in the Township, but its roots stretch back much further into history. Its landscape was occupied by Native Americans for thousands of years. European colonists arrived during the latter years of the 17th century, taking up land and creating an agricultural landscape that has persisted in many forms to the present day.
